MICRO & NANO SPACECRAFT
Barry Hebert, Kobie T. Boykins, and Mike Newell
Monday, October 18, 1999, 7:30 p.m.
at Griffith Observatory
Imagine a fleet of miniature spacecraft exploring the solar system
and tiny robots exploring its worlds. See how miniature spacecraft
are making huge strides in exploration. Barry Hebert, Kobie Boykins,
and Mike Newell of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory will show us how
this technology is already being put to use. This project has been
chosen to fly on the Japanese MUSES-CN mission to an asteroid.
MNTD is an extremely aggressive & cutting-edge NASA/JPL TAP-funded
program to develop NASA's future miniaturized spacecraft, which
include micro-spacecraft, nano-spacecraft, and beyond. Key components
of the program include advanced spacecraft architecture, development,
integration, and demonstration, as well as associated advanced
technology development. A primary goal of this program is to "build
the most advanced deep space spacecraft ever," and to continue this
philosophy as much as technology development and innovation will
allow. For further information about this project, please visit the
website at http://mntd.jpl.nasa.gov.
Admission: $2 for Friends Of The Observatory members, $5 for
non-members; tickets available at the door. For more information call
(818) 846-3686. Please allow adequate time for parking. Children
under 5 are not admitted.
