There was a short sci-fi story by one of the classic writers (might be
Sheckley, might be Bradbury) with a very similar premise. People had
to go to eternal sleep in the VR when 30 (?) years old, several
managed to escape, they were caught and placed into a VR simulation,
where they led a resistance against the system, freed people, etc.
